Fitness For Kids - Some Examples of Basic Kids Fitness Routines

These days, more and more parents are becoming concerned about the fitness of their kids. This is not surprising given the problems of childhood obesity and the increasing weight and lack of fitness that we are seeing in children. Child obesity and diabetes levels are rising dramatically. There is also the issue that many parents feel, which is that schools are paying less attention and devoting less time to physical education than they used to and that children's activity levels are reduced as a result. All of this comes at a time when there is more television and video game distractions than ever that are tearing children away from the more physical activities that they would have once engaged in.

To combat these trends, there are a number of activities and routines that parents can encourage their children to take part in, and can use to increase the activity levels and fitness of their children.

The most important thing to remember with kids is that you will want to make the fitness routine fun. Trying to use guilt or shame to get over weight kids to be more active is likely to back fire and bring their confidence levels down even lower. The other point to remember is that the kids need not even realise that they are being encouraged to exercise more and you can simply slip the activities into their lives without them even noticing.

One easy way is to get the kids walking more. You may live close enough to their school to walk, or even cycle. This is a very easy way to sneak a little activity into their lives without them even noticing. You can also walk to other places like shops. Another very good idea for younger children is to buy a dog. While this will not be possible for everyone, it is an excellent excuse to have to take a walk every day and it also makes the task a little bit more fun and less mundane.

You can also plan fun activities for the weekend like roller blading, swimming, cycling, hill walking or ice skating. These activities are great fun and can be used to basically bribe kids into exercising. It is also a good idea to let the kids bring their friends to these activities as once they are involved in something with their friends, and they get a routine, they are much more likely to encourage each other and keep it up for longer.

Fitness - Different Exercise Routines For Men And Women

We live quite rightly in an age of equality where we are slowly but surely tearing down many of the traditional barriers that exist between men and women. Despite this though, there are still some areas where differences do, and will continue to, exist and exercise is one such area.

Although a few women can achieve the upper body strength of some of even the fittest men, the vast majority of men have a natural physical advantage in this area. This advantage is reinforced by male aesthetic values and many men will favor their upper body when it comes to putting together an exercise routine.

Women, by contrast, will focus their attention more on exercises aimed at the legs and buttocks, possibly in part out of a desire to look more attractive. In this case women again have an advantage as a woman's pelvis is tilted at a slightly different angle from that of a man. This means, for example, that women can gain greater benefit from exercises such as squats by tilting their feet outward with their legs further apart, and do not need to squat as low.

Although women have additional layers of muscle in the stomach, on average, most women have less muscle mass than men and a greater percentage of body fat. This means that a well designed female exercise routine will focus less on bulking up and more on toning and achieving flexibility.

Men are also somewhat less flexible than women as a result of natural differences in their joints and also a difference in attitude. This difference in attitude often results in men tending to skimp on their warm-up routines, including essential stretching exercises.

Of course to some extent these differences are very much a matter of degree and some convergence is possible and both men and women can benefit by adapting some aspects of the routines of the opposite sex.

Women are more often open to trying out something new or different, such as yoga or pilates, which focus on an awareness of different parts of the body in order to maximize flexibility and raise overall fitness. Such practices focus very little on achieving strength, although increased strength often results a good yoga or pilates routine.

For example, a number of yoga routines focus on balance and balance is at its greatest when all the body's muscles are supporting the joints and skeleton correctly and dynamically. This is both the cause and consequence of improved strength in the muscles that help achieve that balance.

Pilates, especially, is a coordinated system aimed at achieving better strength and posture and breathing by using one to assist the other. Once again, it concentrates more on controlling muscle groups rather than building them up.

While men will undoubtedly continue to focus their attention on upper body strength and women to concentrating on flexibility and toning in their legs, both can undoubtedly benefit from taking a look over the fence and seeing how the other half lives.

3 Fitness Crunch Routines to Shape Up Your Abs

Indeed men and women pay much attention to shape up and firm up their abs. In fact, a number of the fitness machines have been developed to specifically address this growing concern. For men and women, being able to wear shirts that fit your body or show some skin is fashionable but you just cannot get into the fad but end up with embarrassment for flaunting flabby and fatty abs.

If you want to have an abs which is tighter and more defined, the crunches are known to be the most effective mid section exercises. Here are 3 fitness crunch routines to shape up your abs.

1. The bicycle crunch - A great routine to uptight your abs is the bicycle crunch. This routine is recommended to many fitness enthusiasts because it can practically achieve twice the result of a regular crunch. To start the routine, bear in mind that in order to attain a more desirable result you need to keep your bicycle crunch moderate or slow. This means that as you perform the routine, you have to use both your upper abs and lower abs. Start by extending one leg and keeping the other leg in a bent position. Have each opposite elbow touch the bent leg like a twisting crunch. Without dropping or resting your torso, try to perform the same routine on the other side.

2. The decline crunch - Most of the fitness centers have a decline sit up board or you can make a decline board on your own provided you keep it stable. Just like the traditional crunch, what you need to do here is to perform crunches but only that you do the crunches in a decline position. Most of the declines are adjustable particularly those in the gyms and the degree of the decline also determines the degree of difficulty such that you have to adjust it yourself to determine which height you want to work with. In this routine, one may opt to do a sit up or a crunch but the crunch is more challenging. Then if you are not satisfied with just a crunch, add up some weight on your chest.

3. The fitness ball crunch - This particular crunch makes use of a medicine ball. Here, you roll the ball backwards as you do the ordinary crunch so as to keep your buttocks in order, close enough to the ground. Once you are done, do it again in the other direction.

As you perform these crunch routines, make sure to observe that you perform the routine a bit slow so that you feel the contraction and the stretch in your abs.
